CREST Resources
54 new free Pick Up & Run CREST resources online
CREST is Britain’s largest national award scheme for project work in the STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths). It gives young people the opportunities to explore real world projects in an exciting way.
4science have created 54 new free Pick Up & Run resources to give you and your students ideas and guidance for CREST project work. Three topics are covered: Triathalon, Future Travel and Squeaky Clean (which looks at cleaning products). Ideas for CREST Bronze, Silver and Gold projects are included, with suggestions for practical, communication and research approaches also outlined.
There are information sheets for students and teachers for all 54 resources.
As always, involvement in CREST is designed to be flexible. So while the resources provide specific ideas, you’re free to adapt them to create your own student briefs.
The teacher information sheets supply useful prompts to guide students in the right direction and provide:
• Suggestions for supporting students (such as possible mentors, time planning, and initial research required)
• Possible equipment, materials and resources that might be required during the project (these are not definitive, since the exact nature of the project can be decided by students)
• Notes on health and safety
• Useful resources: books, internet sites and suitable keywords to search for relevant information
Resources are available at www.britishscienceassociation.org/projectideas. Information on the CREST scheme can be found at www.britishscienceassociation.org/web/ccaf/index.htm. As always, let us know how it goes by contacting us at ypp@britishscienceassociation.org
